Tuesdays, January 5–26 · 12:00–3:00 p.m.
January 2027 — Portrait Fundamentals
Art Paint Draw · 830 S Main St, Suite 2A, Cottonwood
This is a 4-week series, 3 hours per class (12 hours total) meeting each Tuesday in January from 12-3pm (January 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th).
"The Reference Is Not the Boss" Learn to build stronger portraits by focusing on structure, likeness, value, and what matters most instead of getting lost copying every detail. This intermediate series of classes is for students with drawing experience and their own art materials. Students may work in the medium of their choice, including oil, acrylic, watercolor, soft pastel, pencil, or charcoal. In each class Mary will guide you through specific fundamental aspects of portraiture as you work from your own individual photos (additional reference photos will be available as well). This small class is limited to 6 students per series, allowing ample time for individual instruction and critique.
Book News
My book:
Adventures in Drawing: Trusting the Practice of Becoming
is available on Amazon.
This book grew out of the Friday drawing class at Cottonwood Public Library, my studio practice, and the teaching philosophy behind Adventures in Drawing. I’m grateful to share it with you. If you have already read the book, thank you. I would appreciate it if you shared your honest review on Amazon.
A monthly newsletter from Mary Rochelle Art with studio notes, drawing and painting encouragement, book news, class updates, and occasional resources for artists and students.
If you found me through Adventures in Drawing: Trusting the Practice of Becoming, the Cottonwood Public Library class, a local art event, or a friend — welcome. I’m glad you’re here.
